Vote absentee in-person

Starting six weeks before an election, Laclede County registered voters may request and vote an absentee ballot at the Laclede County Clerk's office. You can conveniently request, receive, and return your voted ballot all at the same time and place.

You must make your request in-person by 5:00 pm the Monday before the election.

What to expect

Absentee voting in-person starts six weeks before the election in the Laclede County Clerk's office. We are located on the 1st floor of the Laclede County Courthouse.

To request a ballot you will need to complete a simple form that includes:

  • Your name
  • Your current residential address
  • Last 4 digits of your social security number
  • Reason for requesting an absentee ballot
  • Your telephone number
  • Your signature

Remember to bring your glasses if you need them to see.

Upon completion of the form you will:
  1. Receive your ballot and a large envelope.  
  2. Complete the envelope with the required information, which includes the same information that you provided on the request form. Remember to sign your envelope.
  3. Vote your ballot.
  4. Place the ballot into the envelope.
  5. Seal and return the envelope to Laclede County Clerk staff member.
  6. Receive your "I voted" sticker.
After you turn in your ballot
  1. When your envelope is received, your signature on the return envelope will be compared to the signature on your voter registration card. 
  2. Your address and reason for voting absentee are verified by Laclede County Clerk staff.
  3. On Election Day, your ballot will be removed from the envelope and placed in a separate pile from the envelopes to protect your privacy.
  4. All verified absentee ballots are counted election day in every election, regardless of the outcome or closeness of any race.
  5. Call the Laclede County Clerk's office at 417-532-5471 after Election Day if you have questions about your absentee ballot.
